Book of Mormon

‘Til We Meet

Posted on

Dear friends and family,

It has been a long time since I have seen y’all and over the course of a year and half a lot can change. I have pondered what it is I could say this day to y’all. I still don’t really know, so we will see where the spirit takes me. (:

I have learned so much on my mission. I have had ups and down. I was born into the Alabama Birmingham Mission in Hoover, Alabama. It is there that I learned how to be a missionary. I met amazing people, people I will never forget. I spent 6 months of my mission there. When the time came for me to leave, I felt it coming. I was sad to leave, but at the same time, I was excited to try something new. I was a little more experienced, so why not?

After Hoover I had been banished to the wonderful town of Booneville, Mississippi. I never thought I would go to Mississippi because our mission only covered a small sliver of it. And there I was in the boondocks. But it here where I fell in love with country, where I got the full affect of ‘the south.’ I loved it. The area, the culture, and the people. Oh the people, forever locked in my heart. I had spent 4 1/2 months here in Booneville and I did NOT want to leave. How could I leave? Everything was so good, but again, I felt it coming…I only denied it. In Booneville is where I hit my 9 month mark. I was a missionary now.

I was so sad to be leaving Booneville because I just KNEW I was going back to Alabama and that would be it. But little did I know…. I was transferred to West Point, Mississippi!! I was still in Mississippi! I was so excited. West Point is where I became a Disciple of Jesus Christ. It is where I felt the spiritual change. It was hard work in West Point and it really tested me. But I soon came to realize that West Point didn’t necessarily need me, I needed West Point. Here I only spent 3 months, but it was a good 3 months. When transfers came again, I knew there was NO WAY that I would stay in Mississippi now. I had already been here for 7 1/2 months. But the Lord works in mysterious ways doesn’t He. (:

Where did I go next? I think we all know, BACK TO MISSISSIPPI!!! I was in Tupelo! The birth place of Elvis Presley and boy was it fun!! I LOVED Tupelo. It is here where I found the person I knew I was supposed to find. Why are people in the south so wonderful? You just get heart broken whenever you leave. By this time, I really didn’t want to go back to Alabama. I have spent a total of 10 months of my mission in Mississippi, I couldn’t leave. Mississippi is my place! It is MY ‘waters of Mormon’ It is where I came to know my Savior.

Transfers again and guess where I’m going?? NOT BACK TO MISSISSIPPI!!! I am now in Huntsville/Madison Alabama. And boy, has it kept me on my toes. It is has been a challenge because how wealthy people are here, but that doesn’t meant there isn’t anyone here who isn’t prepared. The Capshaw ward is a great place. I can’t get over the people in the South. Really. I’m very grateful that this is where I am ending my mission. (:

I want to end with my testimony.

I testify that there is a God. He is our loving Heavenly Father. He knows us perfectly, he loves us unconditionally and he wants what is best for us. He gave us his only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. I know he died and suffered for us, but I also know that he rose again on the third day so that we may live again with him and our Father. He did it because he loves us. I know that we can pray to receive forgiveness of our sins, but we must show we have forgiven ourselves. I am so grateful for the Atonement and for the knowledge of repentance. I know that Repentance is real. We can repent EVERYDAY of our sins and wrong doings. Christ is there, he will bear our burdens with us. He will be with us EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. HE is waiting for us to turn towards him and ASK for his help. He is the way, the truth, and the light. I testify that the Book of Mormon is true. That it is, along with the Bible, the Word of God. I know that as we read and study from the pages of the scriptures we can and will find answers to our prayers. I know that if you read the Book of Mormon and ask God, with a sincere heart and with real intent, meaning you are truly intending to act on the answer you receive, if the Book of Mormon is true, He will tell you by the power of the Holy Ghost. I testify that prayer works. I have seen God answer my prayers time and time again. God does hear us, and he does answer, in his own time and in his own way. God even knows the prayers that are not said out loud or in our heads. He hears and knows the prayers in our hearts. He knows what we desire and he wants to give us what we want. I testify that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the one and only true church on the earth. It contains the FULL truth, all the missing pieces. I know that Jesus Christ, himself is the head of this church and that he leads the church through a modern day prophet, just like Moses. That prophet today is Thomas S. Monson. We can listen to him and receive guidance from his counsel if we choose to obey it. I know this gospel is true. I love it, I live it, I share it.

I love y’all so much. I can’t wait to see y’all’s shining smiling faces! (:

Have the best week, see y’all soon.

For the last time,

SISTER Jesselyn Drummond

Post Thanksgiving…..stuffed

HEY Y’ALL!!!
.
How was y’alls Thanksgivings?? I am very disappointed I only got 2 people reply and tell me what they are thankful for. Y’all are NOT very thankful people…. 😉 Ha, just kidding. I know it’s hard to reply. I understand!
.
So here is some cool thinks that happened with my week.
.
Thursday of course was Thanksgiving and we had 2 meal appointments! One for lunch and one for Dinner. We had lunch at some members which was DELICIOUS! And then dinner was perfectly timed when our food from lunch and created enough room in stomachs to add more food! But we had it at an investigators house. (: THAT WAS SO FUN! They are so adorable. It was kinda small, but fun. (:
.

We had a good lesson with our new investigators on Saturday! They are awesome. She, Glenda, posed the question of where her child is because she had a 2 week old baby pass away. Oh my gosh y’all the spirit was so strong!!! We talked about how it is okay to ask questions and we talked about Moroni 8. Then he, CJ, came in the room and we had a completely different lesson with him and just plainly introduced the Book of Mormon to him. He asked, “How do I get one?” I always love that question. (: We gave them one because that is all we had at that moment. But see Glenda lives in Selmer, TN and comes down pretty much every weekend to be with CJ because they are dating. So we don’t know how this is going to work out.
A lot of our investigators have fallen a little because of Thanksgiving and people going out of town, but that is okay, we were able to set up appointments for this week! (: Good things are happening!
.
This week I was able to see how much I really have grown over my mission. We went on exchanges and I had started the conversation with every unplanned invite we had gotten for that day. And that night when I was saying my nightly prayer I realized that I never would have done that near the beginning of my mission. It was just really cool. I am so grateful for my mission and for being able to see the change I’ve made. I hate to have a ‘brag on myself’ moment, but I was just so happy and grateful! I don’t even know how to express it! I am also so grateful for all the sisters in my zone that I get to go on exchanges with because I learn so much form each of them! I get to see them grow and also myself. (: SO GREAT!!!

.
That’s about it y’all! I hope y’all stayed alive on Black Friday! I know we did. (:  Have a fantastic week y’all and one more thing.

 .
Sister Merriam is amazing y’all. I love her so much! She really is like a mini me! We have matched…not on purpose…..for like the past 4 days. It has been really weird haha. Funny, but weird.
 .
I can’t remember what else happened this week, besides, the best lesson I have ever taught on my mission!!! #wow It was with our investigator Mitch. I don’t know if I have talked about him but I’m gunna keep it relatively short, because y’all, I haven’t emailed my mission president yet! /: YIKES! BUT! Let’s just say, he felt the spirit so strongly he thought he was having a heart attack! It scared him. But at least he knows that God loves him and we mean business! We keep him in our prayers and know that his heart will be softened one day soon. (:
 .
Thanks for all y’all do for me and stay steadfast in Christ! (:

525,600 Minutes = One Year

Posted on Updated on

One year ago, we dropped off our baby girl at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. She has measured this past year in leaps and bounds with service and love.

She continues to amaze and inspire us. She is a shining example of a true daughter of God.

We love her dearly. ONLY 6 MONTHS TO GO!

BEST WEEK EVER #miracles!

Posted on Updated on

Y’all this is been one of THE best weeks I have had on my mission!
.
I already typed most of the stuff to my mission president so I’m just gunna copy and paste and make some adjustments. (:
Thanks also to those who have reminded me of how long I have been out! (: But for those who don’t know ha. I hit my YEAR MARK this Thursday! 6 months more to go! Yikes. ):
 .
Alright so this week, let me just say, WOW! so many miracles! Sister Merriam has so much faith! It has really helped to increase mine. Saturday was the day of our many MANY miracles.
.
The first miracle: we had come back to together from exchanges with our wonderful Sister Training Leaders! When we found out, neither one of us read from the Book of Mormon so we decided to do that really quick to keep caught up. We had just started I was mid sentence when all of a sudden Sister Merriam says, “Sister Drummond, I’m sorry, but I really feel like someone needs our help right now!” I was like ‘alright let’s go!’ She kept apologizing for stopping our reading when I said, “Stop apologizing, this is someone’s soul we are talkin about!” So we knelt in prayer of where we should go and Sister Merriam had the thought to go to Dollar General! Odd place right? Well, West Point has two D.G’s so I asked her ‘left or right?’ And she said right! So off we went! We get there, said another quick prayer before we went in and then we were on the hunt! We talked to a few people but none of them seemed like they needed our help….AND THEN we see her. She looked so beautiful! She had a dress on and some really cute shoes. We walked a little closer to her and then I complimented her shoes. Bingo, we were in! We had a FANTASTIC conversation with her. Her name is Doris. Now Doris was thanking us for making her feel good and brighten her day, when Sister Merriam said “Doris we want to let you know that we were led here by God to meet you. He wants you to know that He loves you. We are here to help you with whatever you need.” This is when Doris started getting teary eyed and just goes off with how she had been praying for God to send someone who could help her. AND! Get this, she gave us a referral! Wow it was so neat! We exchanged contact information and she agreed to call us later. We had full faith she would! And what do you know, she did! The same day actually! We set up a time to go see her this Friday! We are so excited. (:
.
The second miracle: It was after the Women’s broadcast and we had TEN MINUTES LEFT! So I said, “Let’s go get some gas because tomorrow is Sunday and we can’t get any tomorrow anyways!” So we did. We wanted to get just 1 contact while at the gas station. We pulled in. There was one car on one side of us and no one to the other side of the pump. But then wow, someone pulls in on the other side of the pump! We were scrambling for a mormon.org card! The woman gets out and of course she is wearing an adorable dress!! So what did I do? I complimented it! This is where I feel bad for Elders. It would be really creepy for them to compliment people. But right then and there, we met Clarissa! We gave her a Book of Mormon! Read 2 Nephi 25:26 with her and she told us she was going to read it THAT NIGHT!! Sister Merriam and I KNOW she did. She was so excited! She felt the spirit and was so happy! She kept telling us that she loved her new found friends! (: So happy!
.
Now is the third and craziest miracle of the night: We drove home and are doing miles when Sister Merriam says, “where is the gas card?” Uh oh. We start looking around, Sister Merriam picks everything off her lap looks under in between all the papers, then she gets up so everything that would have been in her lap would have fallen out and checks to see if she was sitting on it. Nope it wasn’t there… She sits back down, looks at her lap and says, “Oh! Here it is!….What the?” Y’all, we have no idea where that card came from! It was not in her lap before! Miracles! Don’t y’all just love them? (:
 .
Also, shout out to my Aunt Dawn! I TOTALLY SAW YOU IN THE CHOIR!!! I had JUST looked up from taking notes, gasped! My companion looks at me and asked if  I was alright. I told her, “I think I just saw my aunt!” So thank you for confirming to me that it really was you!!! (: So neat! And for those of you who have not seen the General Woman’s Conference, need to see it, ASAP! Go to lds.org and look it up! It will change your life. I did me and I have a great desire to serve my Father, who I know loves me unconditionally and perfectly. (:
 .
Have a good one y’all! Remember I love y’all!

Transfers, Spiritual Experiences, and 9 Months!?

Posted on Updated on

Alrighty y’all, this past week was transfers and Sister Gomm is now in Montgomery! I now have with me the amazing, fantastic, beautiful Sister Brunner! I love her so much and I had actually met her before and the crazy thing is that when we first met each other we had felt a connection with each other! and another crazy thing is that ever since I first met her, I had always wanted to be her companion! Wow who knew!!??! I guess God did. (:

Anyways, this week has been awesome so far! I can learn so much from Sister Brunner! She literally talks to EVERYONE! I love it. Because that is my BIGGEST weakness. I always feel so awkward, because you know talking to random people on the street or in the store is really really hard, and then add in trying to relate that to the gospel. Yikes. But the experience I wanted to share this week has to do with well, that God puts his prepared children in your path! (:

So we were walking back to our apartment from a less active’s house and the Zone Leaders called us, I answered the phone and was talking to them. Then this man, named Fredrick, walked out of this house so Sister Brunner waved and then it went a little something like this:

(I had walked away for a second to continue the conversation with ZL’s)

Orange is both of us

“Hey, What are ya’ll up to?”
“We are Missionaries for Jesus Christ’s Church”
“Oh really! Tell me more about your church.”
“Well, believe in Prophets restored to the earth and in Personal Revelation from Heavenly Father to his Children”
 “Is that it?”
 “HAHA No.. We also Beleive..”
Sister Drummond came in at this point (off the phone with the Zone Leaders)..
“Wait, are you a Mormon? What is a Mormon anyway?”
“Excellent Question! (Then we pulled out a Book of Mormon showed him the cover page, explained the story using the pictures, and bore testimony about prophets being on the earth today)”
“Wow, I like this church. I am going to get me one of those Books Sometime”
“Here, you can have this one!”
“What?! For Real?!” (BIG SMILE!!)
“Yes, Sir and you can have this picture of Jesus Christ talking with the children, AND our card that has the website you can go to to learn more about the church. Can we get your number so we can contact you and meet up with you some other time?”
 “Sure!”…

So now, it probably wasn’t said, EXACTLY like that, but it was the general idea. The point was that HE started talking to us and HE asked all the questions, HE wanted to know more. It was so exciting! We like to call these Emmaus experiences. Meaning, that on the road to Emmaus in the Bible two men were walking and Jesus Christ, after he is resurrected, begins walking with him, but the men don’t realize that it is Christ. Only after Christ leaves did they realize that it was Him who was walking with them. You can read about this story in Luke 24:13-32. Great story! (:

Last part of the letter, this Wednesday, y’all I will have been out for 9 stinkin months!! Yikes. I really can NOT believe that, because, that is my halfway mark. I’ve only got 9 months left now! Scary thought isn’t it??

Well that is it for now y’all!

Have a great week and I hope to hear from y’all soon! (:

Love,
Sister Jesselyn Drummond

STAY STEADFAST IN CHRIST

Humidity

Posted on

Hey Y’all!
Sorry for the inconvenience of the no letter last week….
But anyways, it is getting hot and it will only get hotter! This humidity is a killer just so y’all know! I come from a very dry DESERT! I thought I could handle heat. Boy was I wrong… I will just say, after I get home, I don’t think I will be wearing too many of the shirts that I brought out with me! ha.
Well, this week, I’m sorry, but it won’t be very long. We have had our teachin pool increase so much! I realized it just yesterday. It has been a great week and I feel like a very long one at that. But hey! Can y’all believe it’s already June! I for sure can’t! I realized that August is only 2 months away now…That is like 1 transfer away! Where is my time going!? ):
Well I have felt and seen myself grow in so many ways. I know that there needs to be an opposition to all things in order for us to learn and grow. We all have hardships and I know that our Heavenly Father wants to help us, if we only let him. Turn to your Heavenly Father in times of need, ask for help and guidance and I know that you will soon come to see the blessings of having faith in him.
I am here to do the Lord’s work. I am a representative of Jesus Christ. God has chosen me to help his children find the truth and guide them back to Him.
I love this Gospel, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love the church that I represent, The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. I love the Book of Mormon and its teachings. I am proud to be a Mormon.
Have a great week y’all and remember, stay STEADFAST IN CHRIST!
Love,
Sister Jesselyn Drummond
P.S. Today is my 8 month mark….halfway through!? Yikes…
(Mom’s note – she actually has one more month before she’s reached her halfway mark.)

Blessins’ of the Lord

Posted on

My dear family and friends. (:

This week was GREAT! We had a lot of blessings and miracles happen! I will keep them short though because well, sometimes you just don’t feel like typin it completely out!

So anyways, workin backwards, yesterday we didn’t have ANY of our 80 thousand investigators show up! I was so frustrated! We had 5 tell us that they would show up. DA GUM!

But the positive stuff that happened yesterday was that we got 4 new investigators yesterday and while we were tracting, every house that answered, let us in! It was amazing. (: We also had a day where everything went according to plan! Now, life as a missionary…days just DO NOT go accordin to plan! But Friday everything was perfect. It was kinda weird haha.
We have been teaching more and bearing testimony to so many more people. I know the Lord is blessin us because of our diligence to the work. We have worked hard and I have keep myself positive and happy everyday. Missionary work is hard, but when you are diligent in the work, you receive blessings.

I love y’all so much and I hope that you continue to stay steadfast in Christ!
Have a great week!
Love,
Sister Jesselyn Drummond

P.S

We were at our recent convert’s house last night and we ended up somehow talking about the dinosaurs and Jesus… and when the dinosaurs were on the earth. And the 11 year old son turned to his mom and says, “Don’t you think that if dinosaurs would have been on the earth when Jesus was, they would have da gum ate him!” It was so funny. I could not stop laughing. It was a good time. (:

“It’s not a religion. It’s not a church. It’s who I am!”

This past week has been so great! The Lord has really been with me and I have felt him.

I know I’ve been having a hard time lately but all the prayers y’all have been saying have really been helping! Thank y’all so much! (: This week was the ‘spiritual boost’ I needed to get going again. I didn’t mention last week because I forgot, but we went to the temple again last Tuesday! Such a fantastic boost! For those of you who have not been to the temple in a while, Y’ALL NEED TO GO!!! I’m not even kidding, it will bless your life and you will feel the Lord in your life.

The Lord has also sent people in my path that either needed my influence or I needed theirs. He is answering my prayers! (:

Yesterday during the sacrament, it was the first time in a while that I really felt the Spirit speak to me during the sacrament. The sacrament is a blessing! Remember to use Christ’s Atonement. He did that sacrifice for US. Even the smallest of sins need to be repented of. But as long as we CONTINUE to do better each day, God will bless us.

This ‘spiritual boost’ that I needed has been an encouragement from God. He is encouraging me to keep going and that everything will work out. (: I AM A CHOSEN SERVANT TO TAKE PART IN THE HASTENING OF THE WORK.

Oh and my mom wanted me to put on this web address of my blog I guess. So if you are interested take a look! (:
