‘Til We Meet

Posted on

Dear friends and family,

It has been a long time since I have seen y’all and over the course of a year and half a lot can change. I have pondered what it is I could say this day to y’all. I still don’t really know, so we will see where the spirit takes me. (:

I have learned so much on my mission. I have had ups and down. I was born into the Alabama Birmingham Mission in Hoover, Alabama. It is there that I learned how to be a missionary. I met amazing people, people I will never forget. I spent 6 months of my mission there. When the time came for me to leave, I felt it coming. I was sad to leave, but at the same time, I was excited to try something new. I was a little more experienced, so why not?

After Hoover I had been banished to the wonderful town of Booneville, Mississippi. I never thought I would go to Mississippi because our mission only covered a small sliver of it. And there I was in the boondocks. But it here where I fell in love with country, where I got the full affect of ‘the south.’ I loved it. The area, the culture, and the people. Oh the people, forever locked in my heart. I had spent 4 1/2 months here in Booneville and I did NOT want to leave. How could I leave? Everything was so good, but again, I felt it coming…I only denied it. In Booneville is where I hit my 9 month mark. I was a missionary now.

I was so sad to be leaving Booneville because I just KNEW I was going back to Alabama and that would be it. But little did I know…. I was transferred to West Point, Mississippi!! I was still in Mississippi! I was so excited. West Point is where I became a Disciple of Jesus Christ. It is where I felt the spiritual change. It was hard work in West Point and it really tested me. But I soon came to realize that West Point didn’t necessarily need me, I needed West Point. Here I only spent 3 months, but it was a good 3 months. When transfers came again, I knew there was NO WAY that I would stay in Mississippi now. I had already been here for 7 1/2 months. But the Lord works in mysterious ways doesn’t He. (:

Where did I go next? I think we all know, BACK TO MISSISSIPPI!!! I was in Tupelo! The birth place of Elvis Presley and boy was it fun!! I LOVED Tupelo. It is here where I found the person I knew I was supposed to find. Why are people in the south so wonderful? You just get heart broken whenever you leave. By this time, I really didn’t want to go back to Alabama. I have spent a total of 10 months of my mission in Mississippi, I couldn’t leave. Mississippi is my place! It is MY ‘waters of Mormon’ It is where I came to know my Savior.

Transfers again and guess where I’m going?? NOT BACK TO MISSISSIPPI!!! I am now in Huntsville/Madison Alabama. And boy, has it kept me on my toes. It is has been a challenge because how wealthy people are here, but that doesn’t meant there isn’t anyone here who isn’t prepared. The Capshaw ward is a great place. I can’t get over the people in the South. Really. I’m very grateful that this is where I am ending my mission. (:

I want to end with my testimony.

I testify that there is a God. He is our loving Heavenly Father. He knows us perfectly, he loves us unconditionally and he wants what is best for us. He gave us his only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. I know he died and suffered for us, but I also know that he rose again on the third day so that we may live again with him and our Father. He did it because he loves us. I know that we can pray to receive forgiveness of our sins, but we must show we have forgiven ourselves. I am so grateful for the Atonement and for the knowledge of repentance. I know that Repentance is real. We can repent EVERYDAY of our sins and wrong doings. Christ is there, he will bear our burdens with us. He will be with us EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. HE is waiting for us to turn towards him and ASK for his help. He is the way, the truth, and the light. I testify that the Book of Mormon is true. That it is, along with the Bible, the Word of God. I know that as we read and study from the pages of the scriptures we can and will find answers to our prayers. I know that if you read the Book of Mormon and ask God, with a sincere heart and with real intent, meaning you are truly intending to act on the answer you receive, if the Book of Mormon is true, He will tell you by the power of the Holy Ghost. I testify that prayer works. I have seen God answer my prayers time and time again. God does hear us, and he does answer, in his own time and in his own way. God even knows the prayers that are not said out loud or in our heads. He hears and knows the prayers in our hearts. He knows what we desire and he wants to give us what we want. I testify that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the one and only true church on the earth. It contains the FULL truth, all the missing pieces. I know that Jesus Christ, himself is the head of this church and that he leads the church through a modern day prophet, just like Moses. That prophet today is Thomas S. Monson. We can listen to him and receive guidance from his counsel if we choose to obey it. I know this gospel is true. I love it, I live it, I share it.

I love y’all so much. I can’t wait to see y’all’s shining smiling faces! (:

Have the best week, see y’all soon.

For the last time,

SISTER Jesselyn Drummond

Christmas Eve Week

Posted on

The week before Christmas is always kinda rough. People are stressed and they don’t really want to talk to you. But that is okay!

Holidays are always hard, I’ve learned to not really like them as a missionary, but as a person, I still love them!!! (:
This week has been good. I was able to go on exchanges with Hermana Charlesworth! She is so cute! She is a new missionary and she is SO excited about this work, she was able to help me see where my focus is ha… (: I LOVE new missionaries!
We were also able to have our missionary Christmas party!! It was so fun. We drove to Huntsville, AL for ours. And guess what!!!!!!! WE GOT TO WATCH FROZEN!!!! So now I am up with the times…(almost) I LOVED it ha. Olaf is my favorite. (: Sister Allred and I can quote that movie pretty well. IT’S SO FUNNY! (:
Anyways, that’s about it. Things are going well. I’m SO excited for Christmas! I can’t wait to see my families BEAUTIFUL faces. (:
I love y’all, Merry Christmas!!! (:

Transfers…ALREADY!?

Posted on

Well, this transfer is already over! o: Transfers are Wednesday and Sister Wittwer is headed out…. ): I am very sad, but I know she is going to be great where ever she goes! (:

So anyways, this week was AWESOME!! The Lord is so cool, let me just say that. Life has been good and He has showed me and Sister Wittwer some AWESOME miracles!! It has been so good! (:
First our investigator Addine has been progressing and she is phenomenal! (: She came to church yesterday and brought her 22 year old son, Joe. We haven’t actually started teaching Joe yet, but we plan on it soon! Addine is so great! She has been reading from the Book of Mormon diligently and when we taught her about the Plan of Salvation she said she was mind blown! She said it was familiar to her and she never wants to forget it. Y’all some people in the south get taught that they won’t know their family in heaven. It’s quite sad. So the Plan of Salvation gave her reassurance and she said that everyone needs to know about it! I am so grateful for that lesson and for the Lord being so kind and softening her heart. (:
We also had our Recent Convert  MJ invite a friend to church, which he did and we are hopefully gunna start teaching him too! (: The Lord is working hard y’all! (:
Another cool thing happened yesterday! (: Sister Wittwer and I had some free space in our schedule, so we decided to go tracting! Whooo! And ALWAYS, with out fail, missionaries in general seem to always get that feeling of ‘I don’t want too’ …and we did, I got ‘super tired’ all of a sudden and did that stop me!? NO! Try again Satan. 😉 But we went tracting and the first door we knocked on wasn’t too interested but they told us to stop by their neighbors so naturally we did. Alrighty y’all, hold on to your britches! We met, Kayla she was so cool!!! She invited us in and started talking about this and that…we found out a lot of hard trials that Kayla has been going through and we asked her why she thought God sent us to her and she said, ‘Because of what I’m going through right now.’ Wow…y’all I can testify that I know that is true! God loves us!! (: But the other cool thing about Kayla is that she has met with missionaries before!! WOW! We invited her to learn more AGAIN and we have a return appointment on Thursday! SO COOL!!! GOD IS SO GOOD!!! I LOVE HIM! Her heart has slowly been softened. (:
Today even we met another person who has met missionaries! It’s so crazy, the Lord really is working hard with helping us as a mission reach our goal of 500 baptisms by the end of the year. (:

Another small miracle and testimony builder for me. But first, story time, I promise it will connect.
So Saturday Sister Wittwer and I had the pleasure of going to a Christmas Program that a very well known baptist church put on and we had some potential investigators in it so that is why we went, also to show people that Mormons do things ha. BUT, while we there and were watching and listening, both Sister Wittwer and I had this overwhelming love for everyone. We knew that all of those thousands of people that were there loved Christ and then, the even cooler part was that we knew that Christ and God loved them all, ALL. It was so overwhelming to me that I just started crying. It was so cool! I am so grateful to serve in a place that I know these people love their Savior. Wow…. So yesterday, being fast Sunday, I had the STRONGEST impression that I needed to get up and share that experience and testify to everyone that God loved them. So I did. And when I did so, there was a woman in the ward(whom I love so much!) that got up right after me and bore testimony of missionary work. She said that everything I said was meant for her and that she needed to hear it. I know that we are truly instruments in God’s hands. He knows us perfectly and loves us unconditionally. It was so cool to see how much we,as missionaries especially, are used as tools. (:

So that is my week! I hope y’all are enjoying the Christmas spirit!! (: If any of y’all didn’t watch the first presidency Christmas message, GO WATCH IT NOW!!! It’s on lds.org. (: You will not regret it. Also if you haven’t looked up ‘He is the Gift’ yet either, WATCH THAT FIRST then the 1st presidency message. (:
Love y’all so much!

Another Week Down!

Posted on Updated on

Hey y’all! (:

This week my email is not going to be a very long. It’s been hectic!
 .
This week, Sister Wittwer and I have just been playin catch up. I didn’t talk any about this last week, but from last Saturday til Tuesday we had other Sisters in our apartment. So we’ve been running around like chickens with our heads cut off. We’ve been taking care of sickies! But all is well now. We just hadn’t gotten any of our goals for the week, so Friday and Saturday were all contacting days. Wow. We got tons of contacts and lots of return appointments. It was cool. (: God is so good and knows exactly what we need! He put people in our path, right when we were about to give up, that allowed us to keep going. SO GOOD!
Sister Wittwer is a champ, I love her so much and I am so grateful for all that she does for me. (:
 .
I hope y’all are excited for Thanksgiving! I know I am!! I love FOOD! especially southern food. 😉 YUM! All that grease, oil, and butter. Who doesn’t want that right??
Let me know what y’all are thankful for! I would to hear!
I am thankful for my Savior and His sacrifice for ME. I am thankful for the restored gospel and the fact that I found out for myself that it is TRUE. I am thankful for my parents and all they do to support me. I am thankful for my dear Grandma Cutler and the fact that she writes me EVERY WEEK y’all. I may not be the best at replying to her (or anyone for that matter) but I am truly grateful for her dedication. (: I am thankful for my brother and knowing that he will protect me at any time. I am thankful to my Heavenly Father for everything He has given me. (: He is so good to me. I am also VERY thankful for all y’all who pray and support me from miles away. I feel the strength from y’alls prayers.
 .
THANK YOU!!!!
 .
Y’all are the best. Have a great week and pig out this Thursday!! (:

Miracles all around!

So as a mission we have a goal to reach 500 baptisms by the end of the year. We have been praying for the mission to reach that goal of 500 baptisms and that we will be able to find someone to help add to that! When Sister Wittwer and I had our meeting in Birmingham 2 weeks ago an Elder gave us a challenge to find someone BRAND NEW by the 15th who will be progressing. Sister Wittwer and I kinda forgot about that for a week or so then 3 days before the 15th(Wednesday night) we prayed to find someone who would become a progressing investigator. Now before I go on, I need to back up for a sec. So last Monday we went to Wal Mart for the last 15 minutes of the night. Sister Wittwer got out of the car and I see her start walking across the parking lot. I followed, naturally, and we helped this woman put her groceries in her car because she had A TON! We told her we were missionaries and that we shared a message about Jesus Christ that will help strengthen her faith and that will help her build her relationship with God. We asked if we could share this message with her sometime this week and she agreed to meet on Thursday. We got her number and address and we told her we would call/text the day before or the morning of before we came by. So Thursday rolls around and we go to meet Aspen. (: WOW! She is phenomenal! She told us that she has had so many trials in life and that she is ready for a change. She wants a change. She said she wants to recommit herself to God, SHE WANTS TO BE RE BAPTIZED! Y’all, Sister Wittwer and I were so in tune that lesson it was crazy! The spirit did not cease for 1 second during that lesson!! AAAHHHH! (: We shared with her Alma 36:3, on page 298 in the Book of Mormon but we told her to say ‘O my daughter, Aspen…’ Instead of Helaman. It was so cool. After she read it all she could say was, “Wow! That was meant for me!” Y’all it was so cool! Then my amazing companion invited her to be baptized on the 30 of this month! She agreed and we told her we will be bringing by a calendar in the next couple of visits. So we set up a return appointment for Saturday(the 15th) and we were praying that she would read from the Book of Mormon. Turns out she did!!! She even came to church yesterday! (: Y’all, there are so many miracles happening here. The Lord is being very generous and helping us achieve our goal of 500 baptisms! It’s going to happen! (:

There have been smaller miracles of course! We had a total of 9 new people to teach this week. (: 1 of which was a referral from Salt Lake headquarters! Let me just say, here in the south, that doesn’t happen very often. It was a fabulous lesson we had with Addine. She told us she didn’t have a church home…hello missionaries attack! (: We pounced, in a gentle loving way of course! (:
.
I wanted to share with y’all my short and very condensed testimony.
I KNOW that this church is true. I KNOW that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Christ’s church once again upon the earth. I KNOW that it was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith. I KNOW the Atonement of Jesus Christ is real. I have felt both the healing power and enabling power of it. I KNOW that we can be forgiven of our sins through the Atonement. I KNOW that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. I KNOW that through Him all mankind can be saved. He is my Lord, my friend, my brother. I KNOW I can turn to him for ANYTHING. I KNOW that the power of prayer is real and that we can pray to our Father in Heaven at anytime and at any place and he will hear us. I love my Savior. I love my Heavenly Father, who I know is VERY VERY VERY proud of me. He loves each and everyone one of us.
I leave this with y’all as my testimony and witness, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
.
LOVE Y’ALL!
Have the best week ever!!! (: (: (:

 .
I can’t remember what else happened this week, besides, the best lesson I have ever taught on my mission!!! #wow It was with our investigator Mitch. I don’t know if I have talked about him but I’m gunna keep it relatively short, because y’all, I haven’t emailed my mission president yet! /: YIKES! BUT! Let’s just say, he felt the spirit so strongly he thought he was having a heart attack! It scared him. But at least he knows that God loves him and we mean business! We keep him in our prayers and know that his heart will be softened one day soon. (:
 .
Thanks for all y’all do for me and stay steadfast in Christ! (:

BEST WEEK EVER #miracles!

Posted on Updated on

Y’all this is been one of THE best weeks I have had on my mission!
.
I already typed most of the stuff to my mission president so I’m just gunna copy and paste and make some adjustments. (:
Thanks also to those who have reminded me of how long I have been out! (: But for those who don’t know ha. I hit my YEAR MARK this Thursday! 6 months more to go! Yikes. ):
 .
Alright so this week, let me just say, WOW! so many miracles! Sister Merriam has so much faith! It has really helped to increase mine. Saturday was the day of our many MANY miracles.
.
The first miracle: we had come back to together from exchanges with our wonderful Sister Training Leaders! When we found out, neither one of us read from the Book of Mormon so we decided to do that really quick to keep caught up. We had just started I was mid sentence when all of a sudden Sister Merriam says, “Sister Drummond, I’m sorry, but I really feel like someone needs our help right now!” I was like ‘alright let’s go!’ She kept apologizing for stopping our reading when I said, “Stop apologizing, this is someone’s soul we are talkin about!” So we knelt in prayer of where we should go and Sister Merriam had the thought to go to Dollar General! Odd place right? Well, West Point has two D.G’s so I asked her ‘left or right?’ And she said right! So off we went! We get there, said another quick prayer before we went in and then we were on the hunt! We talked to a few people but none of them seemed like they needed our help….AND THEN we see her. She looked so beautiful! She had a dress on and some really cute shoes. We walked a little closer to her and then I complimented her shoes. Bingo, we were in! We had a FANTASTIC conversation with her. Her name is Doris. Now Doris was thanking us for making her feel good and brighten her day, when Sister Merriam said “Doris we want to let you know that we were led here by God to meet you. He wants you to know that He loves you. We are here to help you with whatever you need.” This is when Doris started getting teary eyed and just goes off with how she had been praying for God to send someone who could help her. AND! Get this, she gave us a referral! Wow it was so neat! We exchanged contact information and she agreed to call us later. We had full faith she would! And what do you know, she did! The same day actually! We set up a time to go see her this Friday! We are so excited. (:
.
The second miracle: It was after the Women’s broadcast and we had TEN MINUTES LEFT! So I said, “Let’s go get some gas because tomorrow is Sunday and we can’t get any tomorrow anyways!” So we did. We wanted to get just 1 contact while at the gas station. We pulled in. There was one car on one side of us and no one to the other side of the pump. But then wow, someone pulls in on the other side of the pump! We were scrambling for a mormon.org card! The woman gets out and of course she is wearing an adorable dress!! So what did I do? I complimented it! This is where I feel bad for Elders. It would be really creepy for them to compliment people. But right then and there, we met Clarissa! We gave her a Book of Mormon! Read 2 Nephi 25:26 with her and she told us she was going to read it THAT NIGHT!! Sister Merriam and I KNOW she did. She was so excited! She felt the spirit and was so happy! She kept telling us that she loved her new found friends! (: So happy!
.
Now is the third and craziest miracle of the night: We drove home and are doing miles when Sister Merriam says, “where is the gas card?” Uh oh. We start looking around, Sister Merriam picks everything off her lap looks under in between all the papers, then she gets up so everything that would have been in her lap would have fallen out and checks to see if she was sitting on it. Nope it wasn’t there… She sits back down, looks at her lap and says, “Oh! Here it is!….What the?” Y’all, we have no idea where that card came from! It was not in her lap before! Miracles! Don’t y’all just love them? (:
 .
Also, shout out to my Aunt Dawn! I TOTALLY SAW YOU IN THE CHOIR!!! I had JUST looked up from taking notes, gasped! My companion looks at me and asked if  I was alright. I told her, “I think I just saw my aunt!” So thank you for confirming to me that it really was you!!! (: So neat! And for those of you who have not seen the General Woman’s Conference, need to see it, ASAP! Go to lds.org and look it up! It will change your life. I did me and I have a great desire to serve my Father, who I know loves me unconditionally and perfectly. (:
 .
Have a good one y’all! Remember I love y’all!

Love,
Sister Jesselyn Drummond

Lots of New Adventures

Posted on

Hey y’all! It’s going to be short this week!
As all of y’all know transfers occurred on Wednesday and I got my new baby missionary! (: Sister Merriam is full of sparks and so much energy! She is excited to be a missionary and I can’t wait to see what this transfer has in store for us! (:
Saturday we had dinner at a members house and we had a ‘greenie’ meal. Don’t tell….(: Sister Merriam’s food was all and COMPLETELY green. HA it was so fun and she took it like a champ. (: I am so proud of her and all that she does. She is pro-missionary already. (:
Sunday had an amazing experience happen! We finally went back to see this woman, Teresa and we found out she has met with missionaries before!! We have a set appointment with her to go back on Tuesday! I am so excited! She may not have been then, but her heart is definitely softer then it was! I can’t wait to begin teaching her!!
Also some Funnies!
I told Sister Merriam that I needed to marry someone who liked the Walking Dead so we can watch it together…(one day)…. and she said, “You can have walking dead babies!!!” Y’all it was SO funny. (: I died.
Sister Merriam was also caught in a stare on Thursday and she said, “Sorry, sometimes, my eyes just get stuck.”
Tuesday when I was still with Sister Platt, I was singing really loudly and very badly in the car and she turns towards me and says, “Hush you obnoxious weed.” Again, I died. Also while we were tracting on Tuesday Sister Platt says, “I need to relieve my waters.” I love how casually she says these things! I’m gunna start sayin that y’all. (:
Another funny thing that happened on Thursday! We were on team-ups with the Nickersons! A storm comes blowin in and we are stuck in this little car with a plate of cookies in front of this less active’s home who is NOT there. Well we wanted to leave the cookies for them with a note so they know who it is from, and we obviously wanted the note to stay dry so we were each looking for something to cover the plate with when Sister Nickerson yells “I have a diaper! A clean one!” Brother Nickerson says, “That’ll do!” First of all, why they have a diaper in their I’m not sure, because they are an older couple, and second the fact that she yelled a clean one?? Hmm….So Brother Nickerson puts the diaper over the plate of cookies and runs! As he is running back we see through the water smeared windows that he has the diaper on his head!! Now this is an odd sight for a brand new missionary who just got into the field! And I’m just dying in the corner laughing my head off. (: I love the South! (:
Well that is it for now y’all! Have a great week and remember to stay STEADFAST IN CHRIST!!
