‘Til We Meet

Posted on

Dear friends and family,

It has been a long time since I have seen y’all and over the course of a year and half a lot can change. I have pondered what it is I could say this day to y’all. I still don’t really know, so we will see where the spirit takes me. (:

I have learned so much on my mission. I have had ups and down. I was born into the Alabama Birmingham Mission in Hoover, Alabama. It is there that I learned how to be a missionary. I met amazing people, people I will never forget. I spent 6 months of my mission there. When the time came for me to leave, I felt it coming. I was sad to leave, but at the same time, I was excited to try something new. I was a little more experienced, so why not?

After Hoover I had been banished to the wonderful town of Booneville, Mississippi. I never thought I would go to Mississippi because our mission only covered a small sliver of it. And there I was in the boondocks. But it here where I fell in love with country, where I got the full affect of ‘the south.’ I loved it. The area, the culture, and the people. Oh the people, forever locked in my heart. I had spent 4 1/2 months here in Booneville and I did NOT want to leave. How could I leave? Everything was so good, but again, I felt it coming…I only denied it. In Booneville is where I hit my 9 month mark. I was a missionary now.

I was so sad to be leaving Booneville because I just KNEW I was going back to Alabama and that would be it. But little did I know…. I was transferred to West Point, Mississippi!! I was still in Mississippi! I was so excited. West Point is where I became a Disciple of Jesus Christ. It is where I felt the spiritual change. It was hard work in West Point and it really tested me. But I soon came to realize that West Point didn’t necessarily need me, I needed West Point. Here I only spent 3 months, but it was a good 3 months. When transfers came again, I knew there was NO WAY that I would stay in Mississippi now. I had already been here for 7 1/2 months. But the Lord works in mysterious ways doesn’t He. (:

Where did I go next? I think we all know, BACK TO MISSISSIPPI!!! I was in Tupelo! The birth place of Elvis Presley and boy was it fun!! I LOVED Tupelo. It is here where I found the person I knew I was supposed to find. Why are people in the south so wonderful? You just get heart broken whenever you leave. By this time, I really didn’t want to go back to Alabama. I have spent a total of 10 months of my mission in Mississippi, I couldn’t leave. Mississippi is my place! It is MY ‘waters of Mormon’ It is where I came to know my Savior.

Transfers again and guess where I’m going?? NOT BACK TO MISSISSIPPI!!! I am now in Huntsville/Madison Alabama. And boy, has it kept me on my toes. It is has been a challenge because how wealthy people are here, but that doesn’t meant there isn’t anyone here who isn’t prepared. The Capshaw ward is a great place. I can’t get over the people in the South. Really. I’m very grateful that this is where I am ending my mission. (:

I want to end with my testimony.

I testify that there is a God. He is our loving Heavenly Father. He knows us perfectly, he loves us unconditionally and he wants what is best for us. He gave us his only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. I know he died and suffered for us, but I also know that he rose again on the third day so that we may live again with him and our Father. He did it because he loves us. I know that we can pray to receive forgiveness of our sins, but we must show we have forgiven ourselves. I am so grateful for the Atonement and for the knowledge of repentance. I know that Repentance is real. We can repent EVERYDAY of our sins and wrong doings. Christ is there, he will bear our burdens with us. He will be with us EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. HE is waiting for us to turn towards him and ASK for his help. He is the way, the truth, and the light. I testify that the Book of Mormon is true. That it is, along with the Bible, the Word of God. I know that as we read and study from the pages of the scriptures we can and will find answers to our prayers. I know that if you read the Book of Mormon and ask God, with a sincere heart and with real intent, meaning you are truly intending to act on the answer you receive, if the Book of Mormon is true, He will tell you by the power of the Holy Ghost. I testify that prayer works. I have seen God answer my prayers time and time again. God does hear us, and he does answer, in his own time and in his own way. God even knows the prayers that are not said out loud or in our heads. He hears and knows the prayers in our hearts. He knows what we desire and he wants to give us what we want. I testify that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the one and only true church on the earth. It contains the FULL truth, all the missing pieces. I know that Jesus Christ, himself is the head of this church and that he leads the church through a modern day prophet, just like Moses. That prophet today is Thomas S. Monson. We can listen to him and receive guidance from his counsel if we choose to obey it. I know this gospel is true. I love it, I live it, I share it.

I love y’all so much. I can’t wait to see y’all’s shining smiling faces! (:

Have the best week, see y’all soon.

For the last time,

SISTER Jesselyn Drummond

Another Week Down!

Posted on Updated on

Hey y’all! (:

This week my email is not going to be a very long. It’s been hectic!
 .
This week, Sister Wittwer and I have just been playin catch up. I didn’t talk any about this last week, but from last Saturday til Tuesday we had other Sisters in our apartment. So we’ve been running around like chickens with our heads cut off. We’ve been taking care of sickies! But all is well now. We just hadn’t gotten any of our goals for the week, so Friday and Saturday were all contacting days. Wow. We got tons of contacts and lots of return appointments. It was cool. (: God is so good and knows exactly what we need! He put people in our path, right when we were about to give up, that allowed us to keep going. SO GOOD!
Sister Wittwer is a champ, I love her so much and I am so grateful for all that she does for me. (:
 .
I hope y’all are excited for Thanksgiving! I know I am!! I love FOOD! especially southern food. 😉 YUM! All that grease, oil, and butter. Who doesn’t want that right??
Let me know what y’all are thankful for! I would to hear!
I am thankful for my Savior and His sacrifice for ME. I am thankful for the restored gospel and the fact that I found out for myself that it is TRUE. I am thankful for my parents and all they do to support me. I am thankful for my dear Grandma Cutler and the fact that she writes me EVERY WEEK y’all. I may not be the best at replying to her (or anyone for that matter) but I am truly grateful for her dedication. (: I am thankful for my brother and knowing that he will protect me at any time. I am thankful to my Heavenly Father for everything He has given me. (: He is so good to me. I am also VERY thankful for all y’all who pray and support me from miles away. I feel the strength from y’alls prayers.
 .
THANK YOU!!!!
 .
Y’all are the best. Have a great week and pig out this Thursday!! (:
Love,
Sister Jesselyn Drummond

Miracles all around!

So as a mission we have a goal to reach 500 baptisms by the end of the year. We have been praying for the mission to reach that goal of 500 baptisms and that we will be able to find someone to help add to that! When Sister Wittwer and I had our meeting in Birmingham 2 weeks ago an Elder gave us a challenge to find someone BRAND NEW by the 15th who will be progressing. Sister Wittwer and I kinda forgot about that for a week or so then 3 days before the 15th(Wednesday night) we prayed to find someone who would become a progressing investigator. Now before I go on, I need to back up for a sec. So last Monday we went to Wal Mart for the last 15 minutes of the night. Sister Wittwer got out of the car and I see her start walking across the parking lot. I followed, naturally, and we helped this woman put her groceries in her car because she had A TON! We told her we were missionaries and that we shared a message about Jesus Christ that will help strengthen her faith and that will help her build her relationship with God. We asked if we could share this message with her sometime this week and she agreed to meet on Thursday. We got her number and address and we told her we would call/text the day before or the morning of before we came by. So Thursday rolls around and we go to meet Aspen. (: WOW! She is phenomenal! She told us that she has had so many trials in life and that she is ready for a change. She wants a change. She said she wants to recommit herself to God, SHE WANTS TO BE RE BAPTIZED! Y’all, Sister Wittwer and I were so in tune that lesson it was crazy! The spirit did not cease for 1 second during that lesson!! AAAHHHH! (: We shared with her Alma 36:3, on page 298 in the Book of Mormon but we told her to say ‘O my daughter, Aspen…’ Instead of Helaman. It was so cool. After she read it all she could say was, “Wow! That was meant for me!” Y’all it was so cool! Then my amazing companion invited her to be baptized on the 30 of this month! She agreed and we told her we will be bringing by a calendar in the next couple of visits. So we set up a return appointment for Saturday(the 15th) and we were praying that she would read from the Book of Mormon. Turns out she did!!! She even came to church yesterday! (: Y’all, there are so many miracles happening here. The Lord is being very generous and helping us achieve our goal of 500 baptisms! It’s going to happen! (:

There have been smaller miracles of course! We had a total of 9 new people to teach this week. (: 1 of which was a referral from Salt Lake headquarters! Let me just say, here in the south, that doesn’t happen very often. It was a fabulous lesson we had with Addine. She told us she didn’t have a church home…hello missionaries attack! (: We pounced, in a gentle loving way of course! (:
.
I wanted to share with y’all my short and very condensed testimony.
I KNOW that this church is true. I KNOW that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Christ’s church once again upon the earth. I KNOW that it was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith. I KNOW the Atonement of Jesus Christ is real. I have felt both the healing power and enabling power of it. I KNOW that we can be forgiven of our sins through the Atonement. I KNOW that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. I KNOW that through Him all mankind can be saved. He is my Lord, my friend, my brother. I KNOW I can turn to him for ANYTHING. I KNOW that the power of prayer is real and that we can pray to our Father in Heaven at anytime and at any place and he will hear us. I love my Savior. I love my Heavenly Father, who I know is VERY VERY VERY proud of me. He loves each and everyone one of us.
I leave this with y’all as my testimony and witness, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
.
LOVE Y’ALL!
Have the best week ever!!! (: (: (:

How are y’all doin!? (:
Not much happened this week. So this email is going to be relatively short…
So for those of y’all who didn’t know, this Thursday is my 1 year mark in the field! Crazy. And because my MTC companion, Sister Zackrison is now serving in Booneville we were able to take a picture together! (: AND! Get this, she is training this transfer as well and our companions were roommates in the MTC! It was like a mini reunion! (:
For one, I can NOT believe how fast this week has gone by… It seriously feels like just yesterday I was typin out another email to y’all. Wow. in 2ish days the month of October is going to be half over! Yikes…
This week was a bit rough, our teaching pool has dropped to almost 0…and our investigators are bein picky ha. But they do have their agency, and we cannot force them to do anything.
My good friend Jalisa though, she is slowly gettin there. (: She has agreed to be baptized. She KNOWS she needs to. I asked her the other day if she believes the things we are teaching are true and she said yes! (: I then proceeded to ask if she KNOWS if these things are true. And she said not yet, but based on how she has been feeling, she believes she will get an answer soon. I KNOW she will get an answer. (: It’s so happy!
Other then that, we have been doin a lot of finding! o:
Yesterday or more of this weekend was stake conference and because I am still in the Tupelo Stake I was able to see lots of members and friends from Booneville! It was so fun! (: I love them and miss them dearly. BUT I am so grateful for being to serve in West Point. I have come to love and make friendships here just as well. (:
I hope y’all have a FANTASTIC week and find the tender mercies of the Lord. (:
Love,
Sister Drummond

Miracles and more miracles!!! Transfers!?

Posted on Updated on

Well, I don’t really know where to start! This has been such a FANTASTIC week!!

My first miracle that I want to share, on Saturday, we got a text on our phone from a random number that we didn’t know and it said, ‘Is this Jesselyn or Danielle?’ I was kinda freaking out! We found out that it was a Texas number so I was really confused first of all because I was no longer with Sister Gomm. Anyways…I found out that it was a guy we met in Tupelo during the tornado cleanup and he was from Texas. His name is Bryce We had talked to him about the church only a little bit. We kept in contact with him for a little bit after and he even went to church in Tupelo! But soon after we lost all contact with him for about 3 months….til Saturday! Come to find out, he was texting us and telling us thank you for introducing him to the church because he is now attending the ward in Westpoint, Texas and he is going to get baptized this weekend!! Wow it was so exciting!! It was amazing to see that I am getting to do missionary work ALL OVER!! (:
Next miracle! SO our mission president has been really pushing us on ‘unplanned invites’ meaning, we have to ‘OPEN OUR MOUTHS’ and TALK TO EVERYONE. Well, even as a missionary, it is hard to talk to people about the gospel. I have been struggling with it for literally my entire mission!! BUT last Tuesday, we had our interviews with good ol’ President Hanks! And wow, I love that man almost as much as my own daddy, he is so inspiring and said exactly what I needed to hear! Because the miracle is that Sister Brunner and I talked to 101 people this week! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!! I am doing it and I am sharing the gospel to everyone. I am a Disciple of Christ. This week has been super busy!

3rd miracle! Yesterday, after the very sad Church service, we had gotten a call from a member telling us that she had some relatives at her house who were asking about the church! So of course, we dropped everything and drove over!! And can I just say, WOW!! The woman we met, her name is Marilyn and she is so prepared to receive the Restored Gopsel!! She had tons of questions, and the spirit was so strong! She accepted everything we said, she WANTS to be baptized. She WANTS to be married and sealed for all eternity in the house of the Lord. She WANTS this. Wow. Amazing. We set a baptismal date for the 23rd of this month. Y’all it was a blessing to see someone else make that commitment right before I leave!

Whoever the next sister is in Booneville is going to have her hands full. Great things are happening here and I am so grateful for my time that I was able to serve here. My time is up and I am needed somewhere else!

Also, Sister Brunner and I went biking this week, and it was a 12 mile bike ride!! WOW! I was dead afterwards haha. And boy was it hot! (:

I love y’all and have a great week!
.
p.s. Sorry y’all! I forgot to mention that I am getting transferred!! Ha. Wednesday I will be in a new area with a new companion! So PLEASE HOLD ALL MAIL TIL NEXT WEEK!  I love y’all! (:
.
***First picture of a frog we found squished on the ground…everything came out it’s mouth…we hope that is now in frog heaven. (:

The Hill Billy Mall!! That is a great flea market where EVERYTHING is so cheap. (:
And I am now leaving BooneVegas!

Transfers, Spiritual Experiences, and 9 Months!?

Posted on Updated on

Alrighty y’all, this past week was transfers and Sister Gomm is now in Montgomery! I now have with me the amazing, fantastic, beautiful Sister Brunner! I love her so much and I had actually met her before and the crazy thing is that when we first met each other we had felt a connection with each other! and another crazy thing is that ever since I first met her, I had always wanted to be her companion! Wow who knew!!??! I guess God did. (:

Anyways, this week has been awesome so far! I can learn so much from Sister Brunner! She literally talks to EVERYONE! I love it. Because that is my BIGGEST weakness. I always feel so awkward, because you know talking to random people on the street or in the store is really really hard, and then add in trying to relate that to the gospel. Yikes. But the experience I wanted to share this week has to do with well, that God puts his prepared children in your path! (:

So we were walking back to our apartment from a less active’s house and the Zone Leaders called us, I answered the phone and was talking to them. Then this man, named Fredrick, walked out of this house so Sister Brunner waved and then it went a little something like this:

(I had walked away for a second to continue the conversation with ZL’s)

Orange is both of us

“Hey, What are ya’ll up to?”
“We are Missionaries for Jesus Christ’s Church”
“Oh really! Tell me more about your church.”
“Well, believe in Prophets restored to the earth and in Personal Revelation from Heavenly Father to his Children”
 “Is that it?”
 “HAHA No.. We also Beleive..”
Sister Drummond came in at this point (off the phone with the Zone Leaders)..
“Wait, are you a Mormon? What is a Mormon anyway?”
“Excellent Question! (Then we pulled out a Book of Mormon showed him the cover page, explained the story using the pictures, and bore testimony about prophets being on the earth today)”
“Wow, I like this church. I am going to get me one of those Books Sometime”
“Here, you can have this one!”
“What?! For Real?!” (BIG SMILE!!)
“Yes, Sir and you can have this picture of Jesus Christ talking with the children, AND our card that has the website you can go to to learn more about the church. Can we get your number so we can contact you and meet up with you some other time?”
 “Sure!”…

So now, it probably wasn’t said, EXACTLY like that, but it was the general idea. The point was that HE started talking to us and HE asked all the questions, HE wanted to know more. It was so exciting! We like to call these Emmaus experiences. Meaning, that on the road to Emmaus in the Bible two men were walking and Jesus Christ, after he is resurrected, begins walking with him, but the men don’t realize that it is Christ. Only after Christ leaves did they realize that it was Him who was walking with them. You can read about this story in Luke 24:13-32. Great story! (:

Last part of the letter, this Wednesday, y’all I will have been out for 9 stinkin months!! Yikes. I really can NOT believe that, because, that is my halfway mark. I’ve only got 9 months left now! Scary thought isn’t it??

Well that is it for now y’all!

Have a great week and I hope to hear from y’all soon! (:

Love,
Sister Jesselyn Drummond

STAY STEADFAST IN CHRIST

Humidity

Posted on

Hey Y’all!
Sorry for the inconvenience of the no letter last week….
But anyways, it is getting hot and it will only get hotter! This humidity is a killer just so y’all know! I come from a very dry DESERT! I thought I could handle heat. Boy was I wrong… I will just say, after I get home, I don’t think I will be wearing too many of the shirts that I brought out with me! ha.
Well, this week, I’m sorry, but it won’t be very long. We have had our teachin pool increase so much! I realized it just yesterday. It has been a great week and I feel like a very long one at that. But hey! Can y’all believe it’s already June! I for sure can’t! I realized that August is only 2 months away now…That is like 1 transfer away! Where is my time going!? ):
Well I have felt and seen myself grow in so many ways. I know that there needs to be an opposition to all things in order for us to learn and grow. We all have hardships and I know that our Heavenly Father wants to help us, if we only let him. Turn to your Heavenly Father in times of need, ask for help and guidance and I know that you will soon come to see the blessings of having faith in him.
I am here to do the Lord’s work. I am a representative of Jesus Christ. God has chosen me to help his children find the truth and guide them back to Him.
I love this Gospel, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love the church that I represent, The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. I love the Book of Mormon and its teachings. I am proud to be a Mormon.
Have a great week y’all and remember, stay STEADFAST IN CHRIST!
Love,
Sister Jesselyn Drummond
P.S. Today is my 8 month mark….halfway through!? Yikes…
(Mom’s note – she actually has one more month before she’s reached her halfway mark.)

Blessins’ of the Lord

Posted on

My dear family and friends. (:

This week was GREAT! We had a lot of blessings and miracles happen! I will keep them short though because well, sometimes you just don’t feel like typin it completely out!

So anyways, workin backwards, yesterday we didn’t have ANY of our 80 thousand investigators show up! I was so frustrated! We had 5 tell us that they would show up. DA GUM!

But the positive stuff that happened yesterday was that we got 4 new investigators yesterday and while we were tracting, every house that answered, let us in! It was amazing. (: We also had a day where everything went according to plan! Now, life as a missionary…days just DO NOT go accordin to plan! But Friday everything was perfect. It was kinda weird haha.
We have been teaching more and bearing testimony to so many more people. I know the Lord is blessin us because of our diligence to the work. We have worked hard and I have keep myself positive and happy everyday. Missionary work is hard, but when you are diligent in the work, you receive blessings.

I love y’all so much and I hope that you continue to stay steadfast in Christ!
Have a great week!
Love,
Sister Jesselyn Drummond

P.S

We were at our recent convert’s house last night and we ended up somehow talking about the dinosaurs and Jesus… and when the dinosaurs were on the earth. And the 11 year old son turned to his mom and says, “Don’t you think that if dinosaurs would have been on the earth when Jesus was, they would have da gum ate him!” It was so funny. I could not stop laughing. It was a good time. (:
